Stuttering
is a communication disorder which affects 50 million people worldwide. It
affects four times as many males as females.
According to leading experts, stuttering can be controlled, not cured.
Up until now, speech language pathologists (SLP) have used diverse techniques
to achieve speaking fluency. However, one of the greatest hurdles to people
who stutter (PWS) is maintaining their fluency after they have undergone
therapy.
Studies show that without ongoing treatment people who stutter will regress
within four months of achieving fluency. As both speech language pathologists
and their clients who stutter know, practicing the necessary vocal and
breathing exercises can be tedious. Lack of motivation ensues and the
patterns of stuttering return.
STS - Speech Therapy Systems Ltd., whose president stuttered severely from
childhood, has developed Dr. Fluency, the only comprehensive software program
incorporating all the training material, specialized electronic tools and
methodology needed for effective therapy and lifelong fluency maintenance.
The program is available for SLP's and PWS in four languages: English,
Hebrew, Swedish and German.
